Steps to Prepare for Hunting

I am glad to see you are reading this and today you will learn about how to get ready for a hunt. It all starts with the preparing a week or so before. You should call the people where you are going hunting and let them know you are coming. This way they know why you are going to be at their house and on their land. Second you have to prepare everything for in the morning, and you do this the night before the hunt. The third and final thing is getting up at whatever time and getting dressed and ready to hunting. In the rest of this blog post I will go more into depth on these steps.

1. First you will call someone to let them know you are coming. On this call you should discuss what time you will stay and what time you will leave. Let them know what spot you are going to be in, and also what are hunting for, and also what you are hunting with. This reminds me of an article I once read titled Preparing for the Hunt” from IHEA (International Hunter Education Association) website, which instructs that “A very important and safe step in preparing for a hunt is to plan it out first.”

2. The night before the hunt is the prime time to get everything ready. I usually make a list and check the items off when I put them in my hunting bag. I also lay out my clothes for hunting. These consist of camouflage overalls, shirt, and boots. Then the bottom layer is thermals, pants, and a t-shirt. I go ahead and put the the hunting bags and firearms in the truck at this time also.

3. The next step is getting up early and heading out into the woods. I usually get up about five o'clock in the morning. This gives me enough time to get a shower, get dressed, and eat something. After i’m done with this, I go to where I hunt and get in the tree stand or ground blind. The only thing left to do is to wait and see what happens.

I hope you will benefit from this post as much as possible. Comment if you think there should be another step or not. Remember, the most important thing is to have fun and not take hunting so serious.

Bushnell Buys Primos

As announced on April 17, 2012, “Bushnell”,which is the leading optics seller around the world, has decided to buy "Primos Hunting." Primos does scents, animal calls, and other hunting accessories.

Primos has done very well but would like to expand more. They started out 1976 selling handmade animal calls. They are selling more items now as it says in the paragraph above.

Here is what Blake Lipham, the CEO of Bushnell, has to say about the whole thing:
This acquisition will help further the breadth of our offering to the hunting consumer and provide the Primos brand with additional resources to pursue new product introductions and expanded market opportunities. We expect the Primos facilities in Flora and Brookhaven, Miss., to continue operations and we will stay focused on continuing to deliver outstanding service levels to our customers throughout the integration of our businesses.
As you see both will benefit from this acquisition. Bushnell will get more hunting products on the market. They do have a lot of optics for hunting, but the only problem with that it is the only type of product they have for hunters. By offering this they will expand the variety of customers they sell to.

Primos is very happy to expand their business through Bushnell. They will benefit because Bushnell is a global business, and when Primos starts selling their products with Bushnell then they will expand around the world as well as Bushnell.

The two of them will make a profitable combination. They will do this because Primos is one of the most profitable business’ in hunting accessories, and Bushnell is the number one seller of optics in the world. This will benefit in both profits and customer satisfaction.

The two companies “Bushnell” and “Primos” are hoping this major business decision will turn out as planned. In my personal opinion I think they will benefit heavily with this whole thing.

Muzzle Loader Hunting

In this post you will learn about muzzle loader hunting for whitetail deer. You will also learn about some of the items used when hunting with a muzzle loader. There are many things used while hunting muzzle loader which is not used for when hunting with a rifle or shotgun. The thing that makes the muzzle loader unique is that you load it from the top of the barrel. Where in most guns you load it from the action which where the bullet is held until fired. You also have to put the primer in manually, where in a bullet the primer (which is the thing hit to set the bullet off) is already on the back.

The gun is made by different companies, but the best is Thompson Center. They sell muzzle loaders just about everywhere that sell guns. This is a really fun way to hunt and it is also more challenging because you could mess a lot easier to mess up. An example is not putting your primer on the gun which makes it not fire, so then whatever you are shooting at will hear the click of the hammer and be scared. You can also kill small game with a muzzleloader. According to the article "Small Game Muzzleloaders" M.D Johnson, claims you should use a .32 caliber muzzleloader for small game.

The stuff you need for muzzleloader hunting is powder, gun, primer, bullet, and ramrod. The powder is the thing that thrusts the bullet out of the barrel. The powder is set on fire by the primer (this is the little spark that sets off the powder in the gun) which is set off by hammer. The hammer strikes the primer when you pull the trigger. The gun is the main part of it all because without it, it will not fire at all. The bullet goes on top of the powder and is the projectile that hits your target. The ramrod is the stick that rams all the stuff (powder and bullet in the barrel) down.

First Deer

Whitetail Deer Picture Availabe at http://www.ihuntcanada.com/pics/outfitters/th-alberta/whitetail.jpg, 2003
My name is Dylan. I am a outdoors kind of person. In this blog you learn more stories about whitetail deer hunting, and also different products and accessories used while people hunt. I love hunting and fishing, especially hunting whitetails. I have killed one deer, but plan on killing way more. The one I killed is a very exciting story that I am going to tell about.

The Warning
“Buzzz”, “Buzzz” went my phone, I glanced down at the text from my step-dad. It read “got 4 doe comin ur way”. I looked behind me in the field and sure enough there were four doe roughly fifty yards behind me. Instantly my heart starting pounding in my chest. I got my muzzle loader locked and loaded.

The doe slowly made their way to down to me. The doe went into a clearing about thirty yards right in front of me. I aimed my gun at the biggest doe. This was my time to shine I’ve been hunting for three years, and this was my chance to finally get one. I put the neon green sight on the doe’s shoulder.

The Shot
I pulled the trigger and I hear “click”. The adrenaline that was going through my body came to a halt. I examined the gun the only thing wrong with the gun was that the hammer wasn’t pulled back. The adrenaline started again. I pulled the hammer back and aimed again as I did before.

This time I pulled the trigger, and I heard “BANG!” The gun kicked back and hit me directly in the cheek right under my eye. After the smoke cleared out I saw the deer lying there about thirty yards in front of me. I was so excited that I had finally killed a deer.

 The Celebration
We had to tag the deer immediately. We took the deer to the processors. The processors are the people that clean the deer and get you your meat. We got the meat about three days later. The day I killed the deer was also my fifteenth birthday. This was my favorite birthday of all time.
